Vegetables, fruits, berries, and greens should always be washed before eating. This process is necessary to cleanse food from dirt and various bacteria that may be present on the surface.

FoodOboz.ua figured out how to properly wash vegetables, fruits and greens. It turns out that there are special rules for food "hygiene".

Greens

For example, lettuce and various greens should be soaked in cool water for 15 minutes. But before that, you should sort through the food, removing the roots and yellowed leaves. While the greens are in the water, they should be disassembled into individual leaves, the water should be changed periodically, and all the dirt should be removed. After that, the greens are rinsed under running cold water.

Also, greens can contain many pathogens, which can be eliminated by making a "disinfecting" cut. To do this, combine 1 tbsp of salt and 1 tbsp of sugar with 1 liter of water. Put the greens in the solution and leave them for 30 minutes, then rinse them under running water.

Berries

Berries, on the other hand, should be washed in a completely different way. Usually, they are rinsed under cold running water for at least 5 minutes in a row. But you can also pour hot water over the berries several times and then immediately cold water.

Vegetables

Potatoes, carrots, beets, and other vegetables that grow on the ground should first be washed from dirt for 2-3 minutes under running water, and then rinsed in hot water. Do the same with tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, eggplant, and pumpkin.

Cabbage

Be sure to remove the top leaves from cabbage heads, because they, like the middle of this vegetable, accumulate the largest amount of nitrates. And before washing, cauliflower should be divided into florets and get rid of darkened areas. This will make the washing process much easier.
