Who doesn't love homemade, delicious pies with different fillings, especially with healthy fish or vegetables? But the problem often arises – what kind of fish is best to use for the filling to make it healthy and tasty.

FoodOboz has prepared 3 recipes for delicious, flavorful fish-filled pies that are very easy to make at home.

1. Mackerel pie

Mackerel pie

Ingredients:

  • freshly frozen mackerel - 2 pcs.
  • flour - 250 g
  • milk - 100 ml
  • sugar - 2 tsp
  • dry yeast - 5 g
  • butter - 100 g
  • onion - 1 pc.
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • pepper - to taste

Method of preparation:

  1. First of all, heat a little milk, add salt and yeast, and leave to infuse in a warm place for 15 minutes.
  2. Sift the flour through a sieve, add the oil, mash it well into crumbs, and add the yeast mixture, mix everything well and knead the dough. Wrap the dough in cling film and refrigerate.
  3. Wash the mackerel, remove the bones, and cut into small cubes.
  4. Chop the onion and add it to the fish, season with salt and pepper and mix well. Leave the fish to marinate in its juice for 30 minutes.
  5. Divide the finished dough well into 2 parts, roll out the large one well, and place it in the mold so that there are sides.
  6. Put the fish on the dough, and on top – the second layer of rolled-out dough.
  7. Use a fork to make punctures on the surface, brush with egg, and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  8. Put in the oven for 35-40 minutes at 190 degrees.

2. Salmon and spinach pie

Ingredients:

  • puff pastry - 500 g
  • salmon or trout fillet - 400-500 g
  • spinach (fresh or frozen) - 500 g
  • pine nuts - 2 tbsp.
  • garlic - 1 clove.
  • cream (20-30% fat) - 3 tbsp.
  • eggs - 3 pcs.
  • butter - 3 tbsp. 
  • olive or sunflower oil - 1 tbsp.
  • salt, pepper, nutmeg - a pinch.

Method of preparation:

  1. Finely chop the spinach, throw it into boiling water for a few minutes, then put it in a colander.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a frying pan, add the spinach, season with salt and pepper, add 2-3 tablespoons of cream and fry for about 5 minutes. Then cover and let cool.
  3. Cut the fish into small cubes, pass the garlic through a press, and add it to the spinach, then add 2 eggs, nuts, cream, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and mix everything.
  4. Defrost the puff pastry and divide it into 2 parts. Put one in the mold and make the sides, put the filling on top, cover with a layer of dough, brush the top with egg yolk, and place in the oven for 35 minutes at 180 degrees.

3. Fish pie with rice

Ingredients for the dough:

  • Flour - 180 g
  • Sour cream (15% fat) - 250 g
  • Butter - 50 ml
  • Eggs - 4 pcs.
  • Mustard - 1 tsp.
  • Salt - 1 tsp
  • Baking powder - 1 tsp.

For the filling:

  • Fish (boiled or canned) - 400 g
  • Rice - 1 cup
  • Green onions - 1 bunch
  • Chicken egg - 3 pcs.
  • Salt, pepper - to taste

Method of preparation:

  1. Boil the fish, and separate the bones.
  2. Boil rice for 10 minutes and rinse well.
  3. Boil the eggs, chop the herbs, and mix all these ingredients.
  4. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, add sour cream and mustard, and pour in the oil.
  5. Sift the flour together with the baking powder and salt onto a sheet of parchment. Pour the sifted dry ingredients into the bowl with the liquid dough and mix well.
  6. Put 4 ladles of dough into a one-piece mold and top with the filling.
  7. Put it in the oven at 180 C for 30 minutes.
