In just a few days, millions of families will begin to assemble a basket of food to be blessed in church. People try to put as many foods as possible in their baskets, including chocolate, fruit, and other goodies.

Father Oleh Kharyshyn, head of the press service of the Ternopil-Zboriv Eparchy of the UGCC, explains what foods are best to put in the Easter basket and what foods are best to avoid, FoodOboz.ua reports. He claims that over the past centuries, the set of products that should be put in the basket has remained unchanged.

The basket should be filled with food that has Easter symbolism. We are talking, of course, about Easter cake, various meat dishes, eggs, dairy products, and horseradish. Traditionally, the basket should also contain a candle.

But there are things and foods that should not be put in the hamper. These include salt, alcoholic beverages, vegetables, fruits, knives, and various jewelry. They do not carry any symbolism of this bright holiday. However, you can still decorate a basket for Easter. You can use towels, evergreens, decorative chickens, etc. as decorations.
