Traditionally, waffles are served as a sweet dessert with cream and fruit. However, they can also be made savory. This dish will taste perfect with red borscht. It is a great alternative to bread and garlic buns.

Preparation.

oksana_matvieieva shared a recipe for hearty and healthy savoty waffles for borscht on Instagram.

Ingredients:

  • whole wheat flour - 200 g
  • buckwheat flour - 50 g (grind green buckwheat in a coffee grinder if you don't have ready-made)
  • coconut oil - 50 g
  • baking powder - 15 g
  • salt - 0.3 tsp
  • water - 350 ml
  • milk - 100 ml
  • dill - to taste

Cooking method:

  1. Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Combine water, milk, and coconut oil in another bowl. The water and milk should be warm to melt the oil.
  3. Mix the liquid ingredients with the dry ones, stirring constantly with a whisk until you get a homogeneous mass like thick sour cream.
  4. Cook in a waffle iron for 8-10 minutes.

You can also make sweet waffle tubes with the same dough. You don't even need a waffle iron here. The idea was shared by irisha_redko on the Instagram.

Sweet waffles.

Ingredients:

  • eggs - 2 pcs
  • sugar - 75 g
  • salt - a pinch
  • vanilla - 5 g
  • milk - 50 ml
  • butter - 50 ml
  • flour - 100 g

For the filling:

  • cooked condensed milk - 250 g
  • walnuts - 80 g

Method of preparation:

  1. Add sugar and salt to the eggs and beat with a mixer for 7 minutes.
  2. Add vanilla, butter, milk, and flour and mix.
  3. Pour the waffle mass into a preheated frying pan and spread it evenly in a thin layer.
  4. Fry on both sides for 3 minutes.
  5. Roll the hot waffles into tubes immediately.
  6. Finely chop the nuts and add to the condensed milk.
  7. Put the mixture into a pastry bag.
  8. Fill the prepared tubes.
  9. Garnish with nuts on top.
