What to cook shank in to make it flavorful and juicy: one simple ingredient

Shank is the upper part of a pork leg, often used for roasting. It has a lot of fat and meat and the texture is very soft. The flavors are absorbed by the upper skin. Therefore, it is very important to choose the right marinade for this product. And beer is perfect for this.

The idea of cooking shank in beer was published on the Instagram page of food blogger Valentyna Saenko (valya__saenko).

Ingredients:

  • shank - 1 pc (it should be very meaty)
  • light beer - 1.5 liters
  • garlic - 1 head
  • onion - 1 pc
  • carrots - 1 pc
  • salt, pepper, bay leaf and your favorite spices and herbs

Method of preparation:

1. Soak the shank in cold brine. Take about 60 g of salt per liter of water. Leave it overnight. This way, it will be completely salted and easy to clean from excess dirt.

2. Take it out, clean it a little with a knife, and marinate it: finely chopped garlic and all your favorite spices. Wrap it in plastic wrap and put it in the fridge.

3. After that, take it out, put it in a container to be baked, add peeled onions (cut in half), carrots (large pieces), herbs, bay leaf, a little salt and pepper (if you didn't add them to the marinade).

4. Pour beer over it all, cover with foil and simmer for 3-4 hours at 170 degrees. Then remove the foil and let it brown a little. Serve with mashed potatoes and vegetables.
