Turmeric latte: what is it, what are the benefits and how to make it
The turmeric latte trend is coming to Ukraine. In Europe and America, this drink is slowly but surely replacing matcha latte and is soon going to reach us. Vanguemo: soon this drink will be available in any trendy coffee shop.
The FoodOboz editorial team tells you what a turmeric latte is, what its superpower is, and how you can make it at home.
What is a turmeric latte?
Let's be clear: this is not coffee. In the West, it is called golden milk, or golden milk. This name is much more reflective of the essence of the drink: it is made based on milk with the addition of turmeric and other spices. Unlike coffee or matcha latte, this drink is not about cheerfulness. The main function of a turmeric latte is to warm and relax.
The drink came to us from India, where warming milk mixtures are very popular. And while masala tea is made with garam masala spices, the main ingredient in the new drink is turmeric, which is known in India as part of the curry spice mix (you know that curry in India is not only a dish with gravy, but also a mixture of dry spices?)
Turmeric is considered one of the fundamental ingredients in Ayurvedic cuisine; in India, this spice is traditionally added to milk and heated, thus obtaining an elixir of health and beauty.
What are the benefits of turmeric latte?
In India (and not only there, but throughout Southeast Asia), this bright orange spice is still used as a medicine. And for good reason. The fact is that turmeric contains a large number of active chemicals, including curcumin, a powerful antioxidant with a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect. Scientists claim that regular consumption of turmeric reduces internal chronic inflammation.
In addition, studies show that regular consumption of curcumin reduces the risk and stops the development of liver disease. This applies to fatty liver disease - turmeric slows down the accumulation of fat in the liver - as well as fibrosis and cirrhosis. Curcumin also protects the liver in chronic hepatitis.
In addition, turmeric is considered a powerful natural antibiotic, cleanses the blood and improves its circulation, regulates the intestines, and neutralizes the effects of free radicals. Turmeric also reduces cravings for sweets and fat, which makes it an effective weight loss tool.
