The most delicious varenyky with cherries: the secret is puffy dough

As long as the cherry season is in full swing, it would be a big mistake not to make real Ukrainian varenyky with this berry. The products will turn out to be very sweet, juicy, with a pleasant sourness: a true taste of childhood. But it is very important to choose the right dough base.

The idea of cooking steamed varenyky with cherries was published on the Instagram page of food blogger Anastasia nisenitnitsia. The kefir for the dough must be warm.

Ingredients for the dough:

  • warm kefir - 250 g
  • salt - a little
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • sugar - 1 tsp
  • flour - 300-350 g

Ingredients for the filling:

  • cherries - 400 g
  • starch - 2 tbsp
  • sugar - 3 tbsp.

Method of preparation:

1. Add salt, baking soda, sugar and sifted flour to the warm kefir.

2. Knead the dough. It will be a little sticky.

3. Put it in a bag for 15 minutes to rest.

4. Add starch and sugar to the cherries without pits.

5. Roll out the dough and cut out circles.

6. Put the filling and make varenyky.

7. Pour less than half of the water into the pot, put the cheesecloth in and tie it.

8. Bring to a boil and put the varenyky on cheesecloth.

9. Cover and cook for 6-7 minutes.

10. Then brush with butter and serve.
