"Pina Colada": 3 ways to prepare the popular cocktail in a delicious way

How to make a cocktail at home

Summer is a time for delicious, healthy, and light food made from seasonal vegetables, fruits, and berries. It's also a time for delicious homemade drinks, such as lemonade, fruit drinks, iced teas, and, of course, all kinds of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails.

Today, FoodOboz offers you to learn the amazing history of the refreshing cocktail – "Pina Colada" and, of course, 3 different recipes for the drink, which are worth making at home.

The cocktail has a very interesting history, first of all, it is worth noting that three Puerto Rican bartenders are fighting for the laurels of the inventor of the cocktail – Ramon Marrero Perez, a bartender at the country's first luxury hotel Caribe Hilton, claims that he invented "Pina Colada" in 1952 (according to other sources – in 1954), using a new product on the market at that time – Coco Lopez coconut cream. His colleague, Ricardo Garcia, says that Pérez only borrowed Garcia's recipe. Ramon Portas Mingot also claims that he invented the popular cocktail in 1963 at the Barrachina restaurant in the old quarter of San Juan, the island's capital, where today, by the way, there is even a plaque dedicated to this event. Perhaps all three had a hand in inventing the cocktail and its name. Whatever the case, "Pina Colada" first appeared in cocktail recipe books only by the end of the 1960s. In 1978, the cocktail was honored to become the national drink of Puerto Rico.
