Not just baked or mashed: what budget dish to prepare with potatoes
Potatoes can not only be baked, mashed, made into pies. The vegetable can become the basis for budget potato cakes, which are somewhat reminiscent of Ukrainian palyanytsya. The dish is based on a simple dough made with water and potato filling with cheese. These potato cakes are suitable for a snack and as an alternative to bread.
Food blogger Victoria (kelbas_v) shared a recipe for fried potato cakes with cheese on her Instagram page.
Ingredients for 2 cakes:
- flour - 140-150 g
- milk - 50 ml
- melted butter - 15 g
- salt - a pinch
Filling:
- boiled potatoes - 2 pcs.
- sour cream - 2 tbsp
- hard cheese - 50 g
- salt - a pinch
Method of preparation:
1. To prepare the dough, mix all the ingredients and knead elastic dough. Cover it with a towel and leave it for 10-15 minutes.
2. For the filling, mash the cooked boiled potatoes with sour cream and salt.
3. Grate the hard cheese separately.
4. Divide the dough into two parts. Roll each into a circle, but not thinly. Put half the mashed potatoes and half the cheese in the middle.
5. Secure the sides, turn the cake over to the other side and roll it out slightly. Do the same with the other half of the dough.
6. Fry the cakes in a pan for 5 minutes on each side.
The finished cakes can be greased with butter and sprinkled with herbs.
