If you have a sweet tooth: how to give up sugar

For some reason, many people come to the conclusion that they need to stop eating sugar and foods that contain it.

Nutritionist Olha Naboka told OBOZREVATEL about this in an exclusive commentary.

According to a nutritionist, our body needs carbohydrates, which are essentially a source of energy. Therefore, when removing carbohydrates from your diet, you should first of all think about how to support your immune system.

"If you decide to give up sugar or drastically reduce its amount in your diet, it is better to do it gradually and take into account a number of important factors," Naboka emphasized, noting that today there is a huge selection of sweeteners that can be a worthy alternative to sugar.

"You can use honey, honey grass, Erythritol, Stevia. The drink will be sweet, but you will not get extra calories.

However, according to the doctor, giving up sugar should be gradual. According to the nutritionist, the abrupt exclusion of carbohydrates and sugar from the diet inevitably leads to depression.

The nutritionist also noted that in all dishes where it is possible to refrain from using sugar, this should be done. "I would recommend completely eliminating sugar from the diet, as crystal powder, and not using it in cooking. I mean sauces, marinades, baking. Prunes can be used instead of sugar for sauces. In addition, fresh fruits and dried fruits can be used as a source of sugar," the nutritionist said, emphasizing that by finding an alternative to sugar, we leave sweetness in the final dish, but completely eliminate unnecessary carbohydrates and, accordingly, extra calories.
