Usually, when making jam, the amount of sugar used is approximately equal to the amount of raw materials from which it is made. However, other natural substitutes can be a great alternative.

FoodOboz.ua figured out what can replace sugar when making jam. Thanks to them, the preservation will not spoil for a long time.

Citric acid or peptin

Using citric acid or peptin can reduce the amount of sugar by more than half. Thus, you can use only 300 grams of sugar per 1 kg of berries or fruit.

Agar-Agar

Using only 1 teaspoon of sugar allows you to add only 500 grams of sugar instead of 1 kg per 1 kg of fruit or berries.

Berry puree

If you like to make a compote and add a lot of sugar to it, we recommend using berry puree. It is easy to freeze it in portions and use it to prepare a variety of dishes when taken out of the refrigerator. It can also be diluted with water to make a compote.
