How to prepare Chinese-style chicken in orange sauce

Asian food is not as complicated to prepare as it might seem at first glance.

Today we're going to show you how to make the Chinese national dish - chicken in orange sauce. The recipe was shared by the famous chef and judge of the MasterChef TV project Hector Jimenez-Bravo on Instagram. (to watch the video, scroll down to the end).

"I admire the way people living in different parts of the world are able to adapt national dishes to the usual cuisine of the country they are in. This is a very popular practice. So today I decided to share a cool recipe for a Chinese national dish that they have adapted to North America," Hector wrote under the recipe.

You will need:

  • chicken thigh fillet (without skin) - 900 g
  • flour - 335 g
  • sparkling water - 2 cups
  • chopped garlic - 1/2 tsp
  • fresh chopped ginger - 1/2 tsp
  • green onions - 2-3 pcs
  • onions - 1/2 pc
  • oyster sauce - 118 ml
  • sugar - 95 g
  • orange juice - 90 ml
  • rice vinegar - 90 ml
  • starch - 1 tbsp
  • soy sauce - 2 tbsp
  • hoisin sauce - 1 tbsp
  • paprika - 1/2 tsp
  • salt - a pinch
  • oil - 1 liter (for deep frying)
  • rice - 200 g
  • broccoli - 300 g

How to cook:

  1. Mix starch with rice vinegar until smooth.
  2. In a saucepan, mix orange juice, sugar, soy sauce, oyster and hoisin sauces, starch, vinegar and paprika. Bring to a boil and set aside.
  3. Add a pinch of flour to the chicken. Mix the rest of the flour with the sparkling water for batter.
  4. Heat the oil well.
  5. Cut the chicken into 4 cm cubes, roll in the batter and deep-fry.
  6. Add olive oil, garlic, ginger, fried chicken, diced onion and green onions, cut into 3-4 pieces, to the preheated pan. Pour the prepared sauce over everything. Stew everything together for ten minutes.
  7. Steam the broccoli. Boil the rice.
  8. Put rice on a plate and top with chicken in orange sauce and broccoli.
