Custard consists of milk, vanilla, eggs, and cornstarch. It is an ideal filling for pastries and cakes.
A favorite of many since childhood, custard is often associated with Napoleon, but in fact, its use is much wider. It is used in eclairs, tarts, and other sweets. The BBC offers this recipe for the cream. To make it, you will need the following ingredients:
- 600 ml of whole milk;
- 1 vanilla bean, cut lengthwise and peeled from the seeds;
- 3 egg yolks;
- 25 g of powdered sugar;
- 2 tsp of cornstarch.

Step-by-step recipe:
1. Heat the milk over the fire with the vanilla and bring to a boil. Let it cool slightly.
2. In a large bowl, combine the egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch and whisk until smooth.
3. Slowly pour the hot milk into the resulting paste and stir.
4. Strain the mixture (so that there are no lumps) into a saucepan and put it to cook until it thickens.
