Crisp, fresh, and flavorful lettuce is an ingredient in many main dishes. It tastes great on burgers and can be used as a table decoration. But it's a real shame to find out that these wonderful greens have become moldy while waiting in the fridge.

Emily Raffa, culinary expert and ideologist behind The Clever Carrot, told Express what you need to do to keep lettuce from getting moldy while it's in the fridge. These simple tips can make life much easier.

First, you should wash the leaves thoroughly with running water. This washes away the bacteria that cause mold. Next, dry the lettuce thoroughly. You can use special devices for this, or you can simply use a kitchen towel.

Next, line the bottom of the container where the lettuce will be stored with a kitchen towel. Put lettuce leaves on top and cover with another layer of towel. It's also better not to overfill the container, because just one spoiled leaf can cause mold to appear on the entire lettuce.
