How to cut onions safely and without tears: 3 easy ways
Onion is a vegetable without which it is difficult to imagine any meat dish, as well as most salads and savory pies. Experts recommend consuming onions and garlic, especially in the fall and winter periods of vitamin deficiency, claiming that they contain many vitamins and minerals that the body needs.
But even this healthy product has its drawbacks: first, it should not be eaten by people with gastrointestinal problems, and garlic should not be eaten by people with heart problems. Secondly, onions give an unpleasant odor to dishes and irritate the eyes when peeled.
The FoodOboz editorial team has selected useful tips for you, published by INSIDER, on how to quickly and tearlessly peel and chop onions.
Cooks advise placing onions in ice water before cutting them so that they do not cause tears.
1. How to peel onions correctly
Peel the skin off the onion, cut it into two, then place one half of the onion, cut side down, in the center of the cutting board with the stem end facing your dominant side (right for most people) and the other half off to the side.
2. How to quickly cut onions in half rings
Hold the onion with one hand and start cutting, starting at the end of the stem, in a wiggling motion toward you from the tip of the knife to the base, creating half rings.
3. How to dice an onion
Use a sharp knife for this technique. Cut off the ends, then cut the onion in half and each onion into two more equal parts. Remove the skin from both onion pieces. Place one slice in the center of the cutting board with the stem end facing you and start cutting. The result will be a standard medium dice.
Tip: When cutting, tilt the blade slightly inward toward the center of the onion.
