How to cook rice for cabbage rolls: the secret to a perfect dish
What is a feast or a holiday without cabbage rolls? This is a dish that will decorate the table and may even outshine most other dishes. The most important thing in cabbage rolls is rice, so it's important to pay special attention to its preparation and not to overcook it.
Food blogger Oksana Myroniuk shared a recipe for cabbage rolls and told us how to cook rice for them. It was posted on Instagram.
According to the expert, rice should be cooked over low heat and not brought to doneness. Otherwise, it will turn into a sticky mess in cabbage rolls. Also, do not salt or stir the rice during cooking.
To make cabbage rolls, you will need the following ingredients:
- Cabbage - 1 pc.
- Rice - 2 cups.
- Onions - 3 pcs.
- Carrots - 3 pcs.
- Tomato paste - 3 tbsp.
- Sour cream - 2 tbsp
- Minced meat - 1 kg
- Salt and pepper
Method of preparation:
1. Boil the head of cabbage in boiling water. Add 1 tbsp of salt and 4 tbsp of vinegar to 6 liters of water. This is necessary so that the leaves come off well from the cabbage.
2. Boil the rice.
3. Chop the onion and grate the carrot.
4. Fry the onion first, then add the carrots and fry for another 5 minutes.
5. Add tomato paste and sour cream. Season with salt and pepper.
6. Mix the minced meat with the rice and most of the sauteed vegetables. Season with spices.
7. Form the cabbage rolls.
8. Add a little water to the remaining sauteed vegetables and simmer for a few more minutes.
9. Put the cabbage rolls in a baking dish. Pour the mixture over them and put them in the oven.
10. Bake first at a high temperature. When the cabbage rolls boil, reduce the heat and simmer for another 2-3 hours.
