How to cook mussels and what to marinate them in: chef's tips
Mussels are one of the most popular seafood products. They are relatively inexpensive and quite satisfying, with little waste. You can buy them ready-made, marinated. But the quality of such a product may not always be the best. Therefore, it is worth buying frozen mussels, boiling them properly, and marinating them deliciously yourself.
Famous Ukrainian chef Valerii Ponomar (ponomar_valerii) shared the idea of making pickled mussels on his Instagram page.
Ingredients:
- mussels – 0.5 kg
- salt – 1 tbsp
- water – 1 liter
- allspice – 5-6 pcs
- bay leaves – 5 pcs
- onion – 1 pc
- lemon – 1/2 pc
- pomegranate – 1 tbsp of grains
- hot pepper – 1/2 pc
- salt
- ground black pepper
- garlic – 4 cloves
- sunflower oil – 4 tbsp
Method of preparation:
1. Add salt to the water.
2. Toss in the allspice and bay leaves.
3. Boil for 10 minutes and add the frozen mussels, bring to a boil.
4. Cut one onion into half rings, and put to the mussels.
5. Add half a lemon and pomegranate seeds.
6. Peel half of the hot pepper from the seeds and veins, chop, and put in a bowl.
7. Season well with salt and pepper.
8. Fry the garlic in oil.
9. Pour the prepared sauce over the mussels.
10. Leave to marinate overnight.
