How to cook cabbage rolls without rice: recipe and tips from Olha Matvii
Stuffed cabbage is a delicious, hearty, and easy-to-prepare dish that is loved by almost everyone. The most important thing is to choose good meat, boil the rice properly, and season the ingredients for the future dish well. There is one drawback – the cooking time, which is often about 2 hours, which almost every housewife cannot afford.
Food blogger Olha Matvii shared on her YouTube channel a recipe for delicious Carpathian cabbage rolls without rice, which are very easy to prepare and will surprise you with their pleasant, light taste.
Cooking tips:
- choose young cabbage
- it is better to use dried mushrooms
- be sure to make dough to cover the cabbage rolls with it
- use mushrooms instead of rice
- broth is needed for pouring, then the cabbage rolls will be even more flavorful
- prepare a gravy of mushrooms and cream, it will give the dish a refined and delicate taste
Ingredients:
- Any minced meat - 1 kg
- Mushrooms - 500 g
- Onions - 2-3 pcs.
- Carrots - 2 pcs.
- Salt, pepper - to taste
- Cabbage - 2 pcs.
For the dough:
- Flour - 500 g
- Water - 125 ml
For the filling:
- Broth - 1.5-2 liters
- Salt, pepper, paprika, bay leaf
For the gravy:
- Onions - 2-3 pcs.
- Mushrooms - 300 g
- Fatty cream - 500 ml
- Greens - a bunch
Method of preparation:
1. Make minced meat, salt and pepper.
2. Cook the vegetable or chicken broth.
3. Soak the dried mushrooms well in water in advance.
4. Prepare the cabbage – boil in boiling water for a few minutes.
5. Add the fried carrots and onions, mushrooms to the minced meat and mix thoroughly.
6. Put chopped carrots on the bottom of the pan and cover with cabbage leaves.
7. Form nice cabbage rolls, put them in a saucepan, and pour the prepared broth over them.
8. Make the dough, roll it out well, and cover the cabbage rolls in the pot with it.
9. Put the cabbage rolls on the stove, preferably in the oven, and cook for about 1 hour.
10. Gravy: chop the mushrooms and onions. Fry the onion first, then add the mushrooms and cook until tender. Add cream and herbs at the end.
The finished cabbage rolls are best served hot, with mushroom sauce and herbs.
