Who doesn't love marshmallows, especially those with different flavors and a jelly layer? According to the latest estimates, it was found that almost every Ukrainian eats 1 kg of this sweet product per year without even knowing that it is harmful.

TV presenter and culinary expert Kostiantyn Hrubych, together with expert Olena Sydorenko, conducted an experiment that tested several types of marshmallows and told what to look for when choosing these sweets, as reported in the TSN Weekly story.

How to make marshmallows at home

The experts noted that there are two big differences between natural marshmallows, which should be made from fruit puree and well-beaten egg whites, and the ones on all store shelves.

"Nowadays, marshmallows contain a lot of sugar and hazardous substances and very little real fruit puree. In addition, the shelf life is very long – up to 6 months, instead of 1-2, the reason is to extend the shelf life and reduce production costs," the experts said.

Experts also advise that when buying marshmallows, pay attention to

  • the composition, there should be no preservatives, dyes, and sugar substitutes;
  • the packaging, it should not be damaged;
  • taste – it should not have unpleasant flavors.

By far the best option is to make marshmallows yourself, as this is the only way to be sure of their safety.
