Home-style lard: the most delicious recipe in onion skins
Lard is a tasty, hearty traditional Ukrainian product that can be eaten in any form: raw, baked, fried, boiled, and added to various dishes. One of the most favorite ways to cook it is boiled lard in onion skins. It turns out to be very spicy, piquant and tastes somewhat like smoked lard.
Food blogger Olena Y ermolenko, aka elena_ermolenko, shared a recipe for homemade lard in onion skins on her Instagram page.
Ingredients:
- lard - 600-700 g
- cold water
- salt - 3 tbsp
- bay leaves
- peppercorns
- onion peel
- garlic - 4 cloves
- paprika
- black pepper
Method of preparation:
1. Pour cold water over a piece of lard.
2. Add salt, bay leaves, peppercorns, 1-2 handfuls of onion husks. Put on fire and cook for 40 minutes.
3. Cool the cooked lard completely in water with the onion husks. This will make the color of the lard brighter and smokier.
4. Then drain the water. Brush the lard with minced garlic, sprinkle with paprika and pepper. Wrap in foil and leave in the refrigerator overnight.
