"Dressed herring" with pickled apple: how to cook a simple salad in a tasty, original and new way
The Dressed herring salad is a very simple but tasty and satisfying dish that can be prepared both for a festive table and for every day. To add a bright flavor to the dish, try making it with pickled apple, olives, pickles, and anchovies.
Culinary expert Mykola Liulko shared a recipe for a delicious Dressed herring roll with pickled apples and onions on Instagram.
Ingredients:
- Beets - 700 g
- Potatoes - 600 g
- Carrots - 500 g
- Herring - 500 g
- Mayonnaise - 400 g
On a pickled apple:
- Apple - 200 g
- Lemon juice - 0.5 pcs.
- Salt - 2 g
For pickled onions:
- Onion - 200 g
- Salt - 2 tsp.
- Sugar - 6 tsp.
- Apple cider vinegar - 6 tbsp. l
- Hot water - 200 g
Method of preparation:
1. Boil the beets, potatoes and carrots. Peel and grate them separately.
2. Grate the apple, add lemon juice, salt, mix and let marinate.
3. Cut the onion into small cubes, add salt, sugar, apple cider vinegar, hot water, mix and let stand for 15 minutes so that the onion is not bitter.
4. Cut the herring into small cubes.
5. Assemble the salad: put the beets, mayonnaise, carrots, mayonnaise, potatoes, mayonnaise, apple, onion, herring, mayonnaise on the plastic wrap and roll it up. Put the roll in the refrigerator and cut into portions.
