Varenyky dumplings are a traditional Ukrainian dish that every housewife knows how to make. After all, there is nothing simpler than making dough from three ingredients and a delicious filling, ranging from savory: meat, cabbage, liver, onions, buckwheat, potatoes, suluguni, to sweet - berries, fruits, cottage cheese, raisins, poppy seeds and even chocolate.

Ingredients:

Dough for dumplings

Dough without yeast:

  • Flour - 300 g
  • Salt - 1 tsp.
What to use to make universal dough for dumplings
  • Oil - 3 tbsp. l
  • Boiling water - 150 ml

Filling 1:

Minced meat for dumplings
  • Any meat for minced meat - 200 g
  • Onion - 1 pc.
  • Salt - 1/3 tsp.
  • Oil - 2-3 tbsp.

Filling 2:

  • Potatoes - 3 pcs.
  • Onion - 1 pc.
Mashed potatoes for the filling
  • Butter - 10 g
  • Black pepper - 1/3 tsp.

Method of preparation:

1. Sift the flour through a sieve twice, add salt, oil and boiling water. Knead the dough to make it elastic, leave it for 15-30 minutes.

2. For the first filling: pass the meat through a meat grinder.

3. Finely chop the onion, fry with the minced meat in vegetable oil until tender, and season with salt to taste.

4. For the second filling: boil potatoes, mash, add butter and pepper, mix.

5. Combine the two fillings in a large bowl.

6. Roll out the dough, press out circles, sprinkle each with a little flour and add the filling.

7. Use your hands to pinch the edges well and cook the dumplings until they float, about 2-4 minutes in boiling water.
