Canned tomatoes according to a Finnish recipe: they taste like fresh ones
Tomatoes are one of the most popular vegetables with a great taste and flavor. They can be eaten fresh, used as a base for sauces, added to salads, etc. Canned tomatoes are also extremely popular, because this is how you can preserve their rich harvest and enjoy their taste throughout the winter.
A food blogger with the nickname kylinar na 100 shared a recipe for cooking canned tomatoes according to a Finnish recipe on Facebook. According to her, the tomatoes in the jar taste like fresh ones.
Ingredients
- Tomatoes - 4 kg
- Onions - 1 kg
Ingredients for the marinade
- Water - 1 liter
- Vinegar - 50 ml
- Sugar - 1.5 tbsp
- Salt - 1 tbsp
Method of preparation
1.Peel the whole onion, halve it and cut into thin semicircular strips.
2. Place the onions in a large porcelain bowl and cover with boiling water.
3. Wash the tomatoes thoroughly and cut them into quarters.
4. Put some of the onion in the sterilized jars and layer the tomato quarters as tightly as possible.
5. Put the onion on top again and lightly cover the contents of the jar.
6. Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan. When it starts to boil, add salt and sugar, let them dissolve and add vinegar.
7. Pour the hot marinade into the jars so that it reaches the edge.
8. Close the lid tightly and place in a pan with a towel on the bottom.
9. Pour water to about half of the jars and bring to a boil. Let it boil for about five minutes and remove.
10. Turn the canned tomatoes over, cover with several towels or a blanket and let them cool very slowly.
