Rice is a great side dish for many meat and fish dishes. But after dinner, a large amount of it is often left over and sent to the refrigerator. After that, it can be reheated several times.
Baby food expert Roksolana Herasymiv (roksolana.harasymiv) shared her tips on how to reheat rice and how to eat it properly on her Instagram page.

Eating reheated rice can cause food poisoning. But it is not the reheating that causes the problem, it is the way the rice was stored before reheating.

If the rice is left to stand at room temperature, the spores that are in the product can develop into bacteria. These bacteria will multiply and can produce toxins that cause food poisoning. The longer the cooked rice is left at room temperature, the more likely it is that the bacteria or toxins can make the rice unsafe to eat.
Rinsing cooked rice
However, proper storage of rice can prevent the risk of poisoning:

1. Ideally, serve the rice as soon as it is cooked.

2. If this is not possible, cool the rice as soon as possible (ideally within 1 hour).
3. Store the rice in the refrigerator for up to 1 day before reheating.

4. When you reheat rice, always make sure it is hot all the way through.
5. Do not reheat rice more than once.
