Blancmange: what it is and how to make an unusual sour cream pudding

Blancmange means "white food" in French. It is essentially an opaque jelly made from milk, gelatin, and sugar. It is a very easy-to-prepare dish that has been a favorite of millions of people since early childhood.

Therefore, on Instagram, a food blogger with the nickname mil_alexx reminded readers of the recipe for this dessert. The blogger also noted that blamange was his favorite dessert as a child.

Ingredients for the white layer

  • Gelatin – 15 grams +150 grams of water
  • Sour cream – 350 gr
  • Sugar -– 80 grams
  • Vanilla sugar – 10 g + 50 ml of water

Ingredients for the chocolate layer

  • Gelatin – 15 grams + 150 grams of water
  • Sour cream – 350 g
  • Sugar – 80 grams
  • Vanilla sugar – 10 g + 50 ml of water
  • Chocolate – 100 g

The method of preparation

1. Pour gelatin with water and leave to swell.

2. Pour the sugar, vanilla sugar, and 50 ml of water into a saucepan, put it on the fire, and turn it off as soon as the first bubbles appear.

3. Pour gelatin into the sugar mass and mix thoroughly, add sour cream.

4. Pour into a convenient mold and refrigerate for 15-20 minutes.

5. To create the chocolate layer, repeat the first two steps from the previous layer.

6. Add the chocolate to the hot sugar and mix thoroughly.

7. Add gelatin and sour cream to the mixture, stir, and pour into the mold in a second layer.

8. Put it in the refrigerator until it is completely set.
