Better than mashed potatoes: how to make a hearty potato gratin
At a party for a large group, potatoes are usually served in mashed potatoes. And if you don't eat this dish right away, it will become cold and completely tasteless. That's why it's worth making a potato gratin. Here, the potatoes are baked in a delicate sauce, covered with a crust, and remain appetizing even when cold.

Ingredients:
- potatoes – 5-7 pcs
- medium onion – 1 pc
- garlic – 2-3 cloves
- butter – 40 g
- flour – 3 tbsp
- milk – 400 g
- cream (20%) – 200 g
- salt, pepper
- thyme
- frying oil – 2 tsp
Method of preparation:
1. Cut the potatoes into thin strips.
2. Put in a baking dish, but do not put the pieces too tightly to bake them.
3. Make the sauce: pour the oil into the pan.
4. Add chopped onion and garlic, and fry for 3 minutes.
5. Add the butter and melt.
6. Add flour and mix well.
7. Pour in the milk slowly and mix well.
8. Add spices: salt, pepper, thyme.
9. Add cream, and cook until thick, stirring occasionally.
10. Pour the sauce over the potatoes.
11. Season with salt, sprinkle with grated cheese, and put in the oven for 55 minutes at 180 C.
