Battered apples according to an old recipe: no-bake dessert in 15 minutes
Makorzhenyky is an apple dessert that captivates with its simplicity and taste. Simply put, these are apple rings fried in batter. The recipe for this delicacy became known back in 1913 when the then-famous book "Food and Drinks in Ukraine" by Zinovia Klynovetska was published.
Food blogger Olena Sagun shared an old recipe for apples in the dough, also called makorzhenyky, on her Instagram page.
Ingredients:
- egg yolks - 3 pcs.
- melted butter - 1 tbsp.
- sugar - 2 tbsp.
- vanilla sugar - 1 tsp.
- white flour - 1 tbsp.
- apples - 3 pcs
- butter for frying
- poppy seeds and powdered sugar for sprinkling (the original recipe uses crushed sugar)
Method of preparation:
1. Put the egg yolks, regular, and vanilla sugar in a deep bowl. Stir vigorously with a whisk for 1 minute to make the mass homogeneous and lighten slightly.
2. Add the melted butter and flour and mix. The mass will resemble pancake batter.
3. Meanwhile, cut the apples into 0.5 cm thick slices. Cut out the center of each ring.
4. Put a frying pan over medium heat and melt the butter. Dip the apple circles first in the dough, then fry on both sides in the pan until golden brown.
5. Sprinkle the finished dessert with powdered sugar and poppy seeds.
