Baked lard: how to make a delicious and original appetizer
Homemade lard can be deliciously baked in the oven in foil. The most important thing is to use the right savory spices that will bring out the flavor of the product, and to let it marinate for as long as possible. This way, the future appetizer will be evenly cooked, tender and moderately juicy.
Chef Volodymyr Yaroslavsky (yaroslavskyi_vova) shared a recipe for baked general's lard in foil on his Instagram page .
Ingredients:
- lard - 1 kg
- strong mustard - 60-70 g
- ground black and allspice pepper
- garlic - 40-50 g
- bay leaves - 5-6 pieces
- salt
- smoked paprika
- soy sauce
Method of preparation:
1. If you have unsalted lard, it is better to soak it in water and salt in advance (4-5 hours will be enough). Proportions: 25 g of salt \ 1 liter of water.
2. Then remove the lard from the water and dry it with a towel.
3. Rub the lard with all the necessary spices.
4. Put the pieces of lard skin side by side. Put bay leaves inside and leave to marinate for 4-6 hours.
5. After marinating, wrap the lard in foil. Bake in a preheated 190-degree oven for 40 minutes.
6. After 40 minutes of baking, unwrap the foil and if the skin is not browned enough, bake for another 10-12 minutes at 200 degrees without foil. It's ready!
