You probably do not store onions correctly: try this clever trick that keeps them fresh for up to six months
It's very frustrating when you're cooking a delicious dinner and the onions you have at home turn out to be spoiled, because they are one of the main ingredients in all dishes.
However, if you know one simple trick, onions will stay fresh for six months and such annoying situations will never happen again. Jerry James Stone shared how to store onions properly so that they don't get moldy and rot on his YouTube channel.
Jerry noted that onions don't keep well at low temperatures, so you shouldn't keep them in the fridge. It is when chilled that onions absorb all the moisture and spoil very quickly. It is best stored in a dry, slightly cool place with good air circulation.
The best place to store onions is in a kitchen cabinet away from the hob or in a pantry that has good air circulation. Air circulation is extremely important because onions release a lot of moisture. By the way, it is for this reason that it should not be kept next to potatoes, as the latter will spoil very quickly.
Another important point for storing onions is the container in which they are stored. Be sure to remove the onions from the plastic packaging in which they were purchased and do not put them in containers made of the same material. A wooden box is best suited for storing this vegetable.
