What to cook with corn grits: recipe for hearty tokana porridge

Corn grits are one of the most inexpensive, but even such a simple product can be used to make a delicious dish called tokana. It is a traditional Transcarpathian porridge that is very satisfying and has a delicate taste because it is made with a lot of cream, potatoes, and cheese. Therefore, this culinary masterpiece will definitely feed a large family.

Ingredients:

  • potatoes - 500 g
  • corn grits - 400 g
  • 30% cream - 300 ml
  • hard cheese - 200 g
  • butter - 50 g

Method of preparation:

1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into large pieces.

2. Boil in salted water for 15-20 minutes until tender.

3. Drain and mash the potatoes.

4. Add 300 g of cream and stir.

5. Add 2 liters of water.

6. Stir everything until smooth.

7. Add a little salt and bring to a boil.

8. When bubbles begin to form, add the corn grits, and stir to make the mass homogeneous.

6. Set the maximum temperature, close the lid and cook for 10 minutes.

7. During this time, grate the cheese.

8. Put a small piece of butter in a bowl and put a third of the corn porridge.

9. Then add butter and half the cheese again.

10. Top with half the corn porridge, butter and the remaining cheese again.

11. Put the rest of the porridge and butter the top.
