What to cook cabbage rolls with besides rice and minced meat: turn out even more hearty
Cabbage rolls are a traditional dish for every Ukrainian. The classic recipe requires minced meat and rice. If you don't have these products at hand, then ordinary potatoes combined with carrots and onions will do just fine. In this form, the cabbage rolls are very juicy, not greasy, and even more satisfying. They are especially delicious served with sour cream.
Food blogger Daria (vistovska_daria) shared a recipe for cabbage rolls with potatoes and sour cream sauce on her Instagram page.
Ingredients:
- cabbage
- potatoes
- carrot
- onion
- salt, pepper
Sauce:
- onion
- 20% sour cream
Method of preparation:
1. First, prepare the cabbage. It should be immersed in boiling water. Then separate the leaves.
2. Cut onions into cubes and grate carrots. Fry until soft.
3. Peel and grate potatoes on a fine grater.
4. Mix carrots and onions with potatoes, add salt and pepper.
5. Form cabbage rolls by wrapping the filling in a cabbage leaf. Put them in a saucepan.
6. Cover the cabbage rolls with water and cook for about 1 hour.
7. Meanwhile, prepare the sauce. Dice the onion and fry until golden brown. Add sour cream.
8. Serve the finished cabbage rolls with the sauce.
