What to add to stewed cabbage to bring out the flavor in a new way: just one ingredient

Such a low-cost vegetable as cabbage can be the basis for preparing a variety of dishes, from borscht, light soups, salads, pancakes, and cutlets to pies, cabbage rolls, and sauerkraut.
Food blogger Kateryna Movchan with a nickname katarina_movchan shared a recipe for stewed cabbage on her Instagram page. She advises adding just a little chili pepper to it to make it moderately spicy and savory.
Ingredients:
- cabbage - 1 pc
- onion - 1 pc
- carrots - 1 pc
- chili (to taste)
- garlic - 1 clove
- tomato paste - 2 tbsp
- sour cream - 1 tbsp
- chicken broth/water - 150 ml
- salt, pepper, bay leaves, herbs
Method of preparation:
1. First you need to cut all the vegetables.
2. Fry onions and carrots in vegetable oil for 1-2 minutes.
3. Next, add garlic and pepper.
4. Add the cabbage and cook under the lid for 10 minutes.
5. Then add sour cream, tomato paste and broth. Add spices too. Stirring occasionally, simmer until the cabbage is soft.
