What to add to all cereals to make them healthy: tips from Svitlana Fus
We all often eat cereals for breakfast because they are healthy, filling, and very easy to prepare – no more than 15 minutes. In addition, these are ideal foods because they go well with all foods: butter, berries, dried fruits, fruits, herbs, eggs, cheeses, and spices that will give even the most banal porridge a new, bright taste. And they are always cooked either with water or milk.
Nutritionist Svitlana Fus shared on Facebook useful recommendations on what to add to porridge to make it even tastier and healthier.
"Healthy porridge is oatmeal, buckwheat, millet, pearl barley, wheat, and other cereals made from unpolished grains, where the preserved grain hull contains many useful ingredients. Such cereals contain complex slow-digesting carbohydrates, vegetable protein, vitamins B and E. No less important of whole grains are dietary fibers, which improve the functioning of the digestive system," Fuss explained.
The expert also noted that white rice or semolina cereals contain almost no nutrients, mostly just calories, and it is difficult to classify them as healthy.
What to add to porridge to make it tasty
"All cereals go well with fish and meat, as well as vegetables or mushrooms. And as an additive to porridge, herbs, dill, cilantro, and basil are good," the expert says.
What berries and fruits can be added to cereals
"Fruits and berries are the easiest and healthiest way to sweeten any porridge. You can use both fresh and frozen berries, and nuts or seeds will add a pleasant flavor to the dish," advised Fuss.
