What is banitsa and how to cook it properly

In Bulgaria, banitsa is of the same importance as borscht in Ukraine. The dish is prepared with puff pastry or phyllo dough. Inside is a delicious and flavorful cheese filling. All the ingredients are very affordable, and the result is a real culinary masterpiece.

The idea of cooking hearty banitsa was published on the Instagram page of food blogger Yulia Skavronska (cooking_by_olya).

Ingredients:

  • half a package of phyllo dough
  • cottage cheese - 450 g
  • dill
  • eggs - 1 pc
  • salt
  • melted butter for greasing the dough - 50 g

Ingredients for the sauce:

  • sour cream - 3 tbsp.
  • salt - to taste
  • eggs - 1 pc

Method of preparation:

1. Mix cottage cheese with salt, egg and chopped dill.

2. Grease each sheet of dough with, roll up and wrap in so-called snail. Repeat with each sheet until the mold is filled.

3. Prepare the sauce: mix all the ingredients and pour over the cake.

4. Bake at 180 degrees for 30-40 minutes.
