If food is stored in the refrigerator, it does not mean that it will remain fresh for a long time. Some foods are harmed by such an environment. Especially some vegetables and fruits.

Dietitian Olena Motova told us what foods should not be stored in the refrigerator and how to do it correctly on her Instagram page.

What vegetables and fruits should not be stored in the refrigerator

The expert notes that it is better not to store onions, garlic, potatoes, eggplants, and avocados in the refrigerator. Other vegetables and herbs should be put in breathable bags. As for fruits, pears, and bananas should not be stored in the refrigerator.

A few rules for storing food in the refrigerator

1. Raw, perishable foods should not come into contact with cooked food. Such foods should be stored at a temperature of 0-4 degrees.

2. The coldest parts of the refrigerator are the back wall and the lower shelves. The warmest areas are inside the door.

3. Ready meals and perishable food should be stored in containers. This minimizes contact with air and protects the food from odors.

Avocados can be cooked whole right away, so you don't have to refrigerate them.

Ingredients:

  • half a ripe avocado
  • tuna in its own juice - 3 tsp.
  • lemon juice - 1 tsp.
  • cherry tomatoes - 2 pcs.
  • salt - a pinch

Method of preparation:

1. Avocado beat with a masher in mashed potatoes, add the tuna, and chop the tomatoes.

2. Add salt and lemon juice, and mix well.

3. Add various dried herbs and sweet paprika.

4. Serve with whole grain toast and scrambled eggs.
