Traditional Swabian onion pie: an unsurpassed dish of German cuisine
Swabian pie is an interesting type of pastry that came to us from the south of Germany. It has an unusual taste and will definitely appeal to everyone who tastes it.
Food blogger Yulia Senich showed how to make Swabian pie on Instagram. She also said that this dish tastes best if you use ordinary onions as a filling.
Ingredients for the dough for a 26 cm mold
- Butter - 100 gr
- Flour - 200 gr
- Egg - 1 pc
- Ice water - 1 tbsp
- Salt - ½ tsp
Ingredients for the filling
- Onion - 600 gr
- Butter - 50 gr
- Bacon, lard or ham - 200 gr
- Eggs - 3 pcs
- Sour cream - 300 g
- Salt
- Pepper
- Nutmeg
Method of preparation.
1.Rub the cold butter with the flour into crumbs and add the egg. Add a pinch of salt, pour in ice water and knead the dough.
2. Wrap the dough in cling film and leave it in the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes.
3. For the filling, fry the onion until golden brown in butter.
4. Add bacon, salt, and pepper.
5. For the filling, mix the eggs with sour cream and spices. Combine the cooled filling with the topping.
6. Roll out the dough into a medium-thick layer. Put it into a greased baking dish and spread the filling.
7. Put it in the oven preheated to 180 degrees for 40 minutes.
