The secret to healthy pumpkin porridge for breakfast that even children will eat
Pumpkin is by far the healthiest autumn vegetable, containing many vitamins and minerals that the body needs, especially at this time of year. Moreover, it is very easy to prepare: you can bake it in the oven with spices, add it to warm salads, and pies, even make smoothies and cook pumpkin-based cereals.
Today, FoodOboz editorial team shares with you the secrets of cooking pumpkin porridge, which is not always a favorite of children, and a recipe that will make them eat it.
If a child does not want to eat healthy pumpkin porridge and not only it, you can always add secret ingredients to the dish that will help to hide, for example, the smell of pumpkin, which children do not like. These can be cinnamon, citrus zest, as well as raisins, honey, and nuts.
Ingredients:
- Milk - 150 ml
- Pumpkin - 220 g
- Water - 50 ml
- Rice - 50 g
- Orange zest - 1/2 tsp.
- Cinnamon - a pinch
- Grated nutmeg - a pinch
- Butter - 20
- Raisins - 50 g
- Nuts - a handful
- Sugar, you can use honey - 1 tbsp
- Salt - to taste
Method of preparation:
- Wash the pumpkin, cut off the rough skin, and cut the flesh into small cubes.
- Put it in a saucepan, cover with water, cover and bring to a boil, then cook for another 10 minutes.
- When the pumpkin is soft, add the milk, bring it to a boil again, add sugar or honey, salt, and spices, and stir.
- After the milk has boiled, add the rice, but do not stir it, cover the saucepan with a lid and leave it to simmer over low heat for about 30-40 minutes.
- When the time is up, add the butter, stir the porridge, pour it into a bowl, and add the soaked raisins, nuts, and lemon zest.
