The most delicious and spicy marinade for herring
Herring is not only the most budget-friendly but also one of the healthiest fish. It contains powerful antioxidants such as vitamin E and selenium, and one and a half to two daily norms of omega-3 fatty acids. It can also be pickled and added to salads.
Culinary expert Yevhen Klopotenko shared a recipe for a delicious herring marinade that you can easily prepare at home on his website .
A tip from the chef: be sure to add coriander to the marinade, it will give the fish a woody smell and sweet taste, and if you add cloves, it will enhance the musky flavor of the marinade.
"But you should know that this spice increases its bitterness when combined with vinegar and other alcohol-containing products, so you need to add just a little bit of it," the cook explains.
Ingredients:
- herring - 1 pc.
- onion - 1 pc.
- water - 200 ml
- salt - 1 tbsp
- sunflower oil - 1 tbsp
- 9% vinegar - 1 tbsp.
- bay leaf - 2 pcs.
- allspice - 6 peas
- black pepper - 5 peas
- coriander - 1/3 tsp.
- cloves - 2 pcs.
- 500 ml jar
Method of preparation:
1. Defrost the herring, clean it, cut off the head, remove the skin and insides, and rinse with water.
2. Then cut into 2 cm pieces.
3. Peel and slice the onion into rings.
4. Layer the fish with onions in the jar.
5. For the marinade, pour water into a saucepan, add salt and oil, as well as two types of pepper, coriander, and cloves.
6. Put the saucepan on the stove and bring the marinade to a boil to dissolve the salt. Add vinegar and immediately remove the marinade from the heat and let it cool completely.
