The benefits of coffee in the fight against body fat have been revealed
A study published in The Journal of Nutrition has shown a link between coffee consumption and body fat. In particular, women who drink 2-3 cups a day have 2.8% less fat.
A group of scientists analyzed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, obtained by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). They collected information on the number of cups of coffee that respondents drank per day and compared them with the percentage of fat in the abdominal cavity, webconsultas.com reports.
The results showed a 2.8% reduction in body fat on average, regardless of the women's age. In more detail, women aged 20 to 44 who drank 2-3 cups of coffee a day had a 3.4% lower body fat level than those who did not drink this drink at all. At the same time, women aged 45-69 who drank 4 cups or more had 4.1% less body fat. Regarding the type of coffee in the study, the researchers pointed out that the work was carried out with both decaffeinated and caffeinated coffee.
Men also took part in the experiment, but the correlation between body fat percentage and coffee consumption was less significant. In particular, it was noted that men aged 20 to 44 who drank 2-3 cups a day had 1.3% less total fat and 1.8% less body fat compared to those who did not drink it.
According to Dr. Lee Smith, lead author of the study, the discovery of this relationship suggests that coffee, in addition to caffeine, contains biologically active compounds that will help regulate body weight and may be a promising tool against obesity.
According to recent studies, the amount of caffeine in a double espresso or its equivalent 3 hours before bedtime causes a 40-minute delay in the human body clock.
