Varenyky are one of the simplest and most beloved dishes that can be prepared with a variety of fillings: from berry and cheese to vegetable. If you want a more hearty dish, then potatoes are the perfect option. The dough is the simplest as it is made with boiled water. Thanks to this, the varenyky do not fall apart during the cooking process.

Food blogger Iryna (irina.ipelekh) shared a recipe for potato varenyky on her Instagram page.

Ingredients:

Dough:

  • flour - 500-550 g
  • eggs - 1 pc
  • boiling water - 200 ml
  • vegetable oil - 30 ml
  • salt - 1/3 tsp

Filling:

  • potatoes - 800 g
  • buckwheat - 1/3 tbsp
  • onion - 1 pc
  • salt, pepper

Method of preparation:

1. For the filling, boil the potatoes and buckwheat until tender.

2. Fry the onion until golden brown.

3. Combine all the ingredients, season with salt and pepper and mash.

4. For the dough, combine boiling water, oil, and salt, and mix.

5. Add the egg and mix.

6. Add flour and knead elastic, soft dough.

7. Roll out the dough, cut out circles and form varenyky.

8. Cook in salted boiling water. Serve with butter and sour cream.
