Safe homemade shawarma with chicken: very hearty and quick to make
Store-bought shawarma can be considered unhealthy fast food because the dish is often made with low-quality meat and a lot of sauces. But if you make shawarma at home, it will be a very nutritious dish, especially if you add a lot of vegetables.
The idea of making a juicy homemade shawarma was published on the Instagram page of food blogger Yulia Symonchuk (cook_julija_simonchuk). You can combine sour cream and mayonnaise for the sauce.
Ingredients:
- pita bread - 3 pcs.
- chicken thigh fillet - 400 g
- cucumber - 1-2 pcs.
- tomato - 1 pc.
- cabbage/lettuce - 120-150 g
- soy sauce - 5 tbsp
- oil - 1 tbsp.
Ingredients for the sauce:
- mayonnaise - 3-4 tbsp.
- sour cream - 3-4 tbsp
- mustard - 1-2 tsp.
- garlic - 2-3 cloves
- salt, pepper, paprika - to taste;
- dill
Method of preparation:
1. Season the thigh fillet with pepper and a little paprika.
2. Add soy sauce and oil.
3. Stir and marinate for 10-30 minutes.
4. Grill until tender.
5. Cut into small pieces.
6. For the sauce, add sour cream, mustard, garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, and finely chopped dill to the mayonnaise.
7. Mix well.
8. Smear the pita bread with the sauce. Add meat, tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce (or cabbage). Put more sauce on top and roll the shawarma.
9. Place on a grill or dry frying pan.
10. Fry until browned.
