Real Odesa forshmak: we tell you how to cook it correctly

Herring is one of the healthiest and most delicious fish that can be eaten simply with bread, as well as made into appetizers, sandwiches, and delicious forshmak. Add sour apples to the forshmak for a bright flavor.

The cook shared on Instagram a recipe for a delicious, authentic Odesa forshmak, with an apple and boiled eggs.

Ingredients:

  • herring 1 pc.
  • eggs 3 pcs
  • onion 1pc
  • apple 1pc
  • butter 60g
  • salt, pepper
  • lemon juice

Method of preparation:

1. Separate the herring fillet from the bones and chop finely with a knife.

2. Finely chop the onion and add to the herring.

3. Grate the apple and boiled eggs. Add soft butter (but not melted) and drizzle with lemon juice.

4. Add salt and pepper to taste and mix.
