Poppy seed pie: how to make a juicy roll with poppy seeds and nuts
Poppy seed pie, or poppy seed roll, is a popular pastry often prepared for Christmas and New Year's holidays, as well as for tea. Traditionally, poppy seed pie is based on yeast dough and poppy seed filling, which can be supplemented with fragrant nuts.
Food blogger Oksana Bilinska (oxana_bil) shared a recipe for a poppy seed and nut roll on her Instagram page.
Ingredients:
Dough:
- flour - 500 g
- warm milk - 250 ml
- eggs - 1 pc.
- butter - 50 g
- sugar - 70 g
- fast-acting yeast - 7 g
- salt - 0.5 tsp.
The filling:
- dry poppy seeds - 300 g
- sugar - 150 g
- milk - 200 ml
- butter - 50 g
- vanilla sugar - 9 g
- block - 1 pc.
- chopped nuts
Method of preparation:
1. To prepare the dough, mix all the ingredients and knead the dough. It should be soft and not stick to your hands. Put the finished dough in a warm place to increase in 1.5 times.
2. To prepare the filling, mix the poppy seeds, sugar and milk. Beat everything with a blender until smooth.
3. Add butter to the resulting mass, put on fire, and melt slightly.
4. Add the vanilla sugar and egg white while stirring constantly. Stir and add the nuts at the end.
5. Roll out the dough, spread the filling evenly, and form a roll. This amount of dough will make 2 small or one large roll. Cover the finished rolls with a towel and place in a warm place for 40 minutes.
6. Grease the rolls with a mixture of 1 egg yolk and 1 tsp of water.
7. Bake at 180 degrees for 40 minutes.
