Perfect mussel sauces that are easy to make at home
Mussels are one of the most popular seafood products. The Japanese consider mussels to be a symbol of love – the two shell flaps remind them of the indissolubility of a relationship. Gourmet mussel dishes are served in many prestigious restaurants around the world, but this product can be deliciously prepared at home. Especially in the fall – during the season of various vegetables, herbs, and spices.

How to properly clean mussels in shells
- If mussels are in shells, they should be tightly closed
- To clean the product from the sand, you need to put the seafood in a saucepan, add a few tablespoons of cornmeal, and leave for an hour.
- Remove the antennae with pliers.
- Clean the shells well with a brush.
Sauces for mussels
- Aioli
Similar to garlic mayonnaise.
Put 3 cloves of garlic and a pinch of salt in a blender. Blend for 2 seconds. Add the egg yolk (at room temperature), and juice of half a lemon and blend again. Add a glass of olive oil in a thin stream.
- Beurre Blanc
Delicate creamy, with a pleasant sourness.
Heat a glass of dry white wine, half a glass of wine vinegar, and finely chopped shallots in a saucepan until the liquid boils. Boil for 10 minutes over low heat. Add 400 g of cold butter in portions and whisk the mixture with a whisk until the sauce thickens.
- Mint and cucumber sauce
Fresh, light, and low-calorie.
Finely chop 15 grams of mint and 1 small cucumber. Mix with 150 grams of Greek yogurt and salt. Leave for 5 minutes for better flavor.
Mussels with shrimp in a creamy sauce
Ingredients:
- mussels - 1 package
- shrimps - 300 g
- cream 30% - 500 ml
- garlic - 8 cloves
- Parmesan cheese - 100 g
- salt, pepper, turmeric, Italian herbs - to taste
Method of preparation:
- Rinse the mussels several times and peel them if necessary.
- Combine shrimp and mussels in a baking dish.
- Add garlic, all spices, and Parmesan.
- Pour over the cream.
- Bake in the oven at 180 degrees for 20 minutes.
- Serve with pasta or rice.
