Nutritionist Oksana Skytalinska shared her recommendations for choosing seasonal, healthy tea, and also told us what other drink everyone should drink regardless of the season.

In an exclusive commentary for OBOZREVATEL, the expert said that all teas are equally healthy, but clarified that green and black are the most useful

"All teas – black and green – are equally healthy if brewed properly. Green tea is indeed a source of very valuable biologically active compounds that have a tonic effect on the body. It tones up and improves the body's ability to adapt in the fall and winter. Tea contains about 300 biologically active compounds, especially such active compounds as theins, catechins, and alkaloids. We feel the tonic effect of the alkaloid caffeine some time after drinking tea. Caffeine and theines are part of methylxanthines, which have a tonic, antispasmodic, and mild diuretic effect. Methylxanthines are involved in the processes of cellular regulation, affect proliferative activity, as well as the intensity of certain metabolic processes," the expert noted.

Tea is a natural universal adaptogen

The expert also clarified that tea is the main antioxidant drink that everyone should drink, especially if you are a city dweller or lead a sedentary, office-based lifestyle, as well as overweight people.

"If you are a resident of a large metropolis, you should drink teas, as they are a real antioxidant that fights free radicals, which can harm the body as a whole. Also, if you lead a sedentary lifestyle or are overweight," the expert added.

The nutritionist added that in the fall, it is best to drink tea made from seasonal berries, such as viburnum, dried rose hips and frozen berries.

"Such teas will be very useful and easy to prepare, you just need to brew rose hips and enjoy delicious tea. Or you can simply defrost the berries, crush them well, and pour them in," Skytalinska said.

It's worth noting that the nutritionist singled out one of the most useful and essential drinks among all the drinks, and it's water.

Many Ukrainians actually underestimate and dislike this essential drink for the body, because it is water that starts the metabolic process, and everyone should drink it.

The expert added that during the cold season, people drink much less water than, for example, in summer. Therefore, she recommends a great alternative – hot, healthy teas with viburnum, ginger, and cinnamon, which can warm you up and provide the right amount of vitamins and many other useful things.
