Consuming ultra-pasteurized foods, processed red meat and semi-finished products, fried foods, foods with added sugar, and excessive amounts of alcohol can negatively affect a person's health and life expectancy. You should give up such eating habits to improve your health and longevity.

This was stated by Katherine Zeratsky, MD, a nutritionist at the Mayo Clinic, according to the Eat This, Not That portal. She noted that not all "processed" foods are equally unhealthy for humans.

According to the expert, foods with minimal processing, such as canned vegetables and frozen meat, usually contain nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and fiber.

On the other hand, foods with a high degree of processing - ultra-processed foods, such as convenience foods, store-bought bread, and others – contain saturated fats, added sugar, and little to no fiber. The nutritionist warned that such food often contains more calories than nutrients.

Earlier, researchers named a diet that helps prolong life. Experts have found that the source of food has a significant impact on the relationship between carbohydrate consumption and mortality. In particular, diets that involve the consumption of vegetable proteins and fats from vegetables, nuts, peanut butter, and whole-grain bread are associated with a lower risk of mortality.

A daily dose of nuts can also help extend a person's life. They help maintain a healthy weight, reduce the risk of heart disease, and prevent the development of cancer. Thus, according to researchers, people who ate nuts every day were less likely to die from cancer, heart disease, and respiratory diseases. The scientists called weight maintenance an additional bonus.
