Minimal sugar and no thickeners: how to make good strawberry jam, says Olha Sumska
Strawberry jam is one of the most delicious, flavorful berry treats that you need to know how to cook properly so that it is not runny and tasteless, without adding thickeners. It is worth noting that several safe products will give a special flavor to jam, and these are citrus fruits.
Ukrainian actress and TV presenter Olha Sumska shared a recipe for a delicious, thick, and transparent strawberry jam with orange slices and lemon juice on Instagram, which will give the jam an incredible color.
A tip from the star: to make the jam thick, do not remove the foam during cooking, as this is a real, natural thickener. Also, cook the jam over high heat. Citrus fruits will add color and a special flavor to the jam.
Ingredients:
- Strawberries – 1 kg
- Sugar – 200 g
- Lemon juice 1/2 pc. or citric acid a teaspoon per kilogram
- Orange – two slices with peel
Method of preparation:
1. Wash and peel the strawberries.
2. Chop the strawberries, put them in a bowl to make the jam, add sugar, mix, and leave for 1 hour to let the berries juice.
3. Squeeze the juice of a lemon, finely chop 2 slices of orange, and add to the strawberries, and mix.
4. Put the jam on medium heat and cook for about 30 minutes, stirring constantly to prevent it from burning.
5. Once the jam is completely cooked, pour it hot into sterile jars, close the lids, turn the jars upside down, and let them cool completely.
