Cabbage rolls are a delicious and very satisfying dish. They are usually made from cabbage, with rice, minced meat, spices, and a delicious sauce as the filling. You can also cook lazy cabbage rolls, without cabbage, as well as vegetable and lean ones.

Culinary expert Yevhen Klopotenko shared on his website a recipe for delicious lean cabbage rolls with potatoes, which you can prepare very easily at home.

Ingredients:

  • white cabbage – 1 pc
  • potatoes – 1 kg
  • bay leaf – 3 pcs
  • allspice – 4 peas
Spices for the filling
  • garlic – 3-4 cloves
  • sunflower oil – 3 tbsp
  • onion – 2 pcs
  • salt and pepper – to taste

For the dressing:

  • tomato paste – 3 tbsp
  • sugar – 1 tsp
  • water – 500 ml

Method of preparation:

1. Boil the potatoes, mash them, add garlic, salt and pepper.

2. Remove the top leaves from the cabbage, cut out the head of the cabbage, prick the cabbage with a fork, carefully remove one leaf at a time into a bowl, and put it in boiling water.

3. Fry: peel the onion and cut it into medium cubes, fry in a frying pan until tender, then add to the mashed potatoes, and mix.

4. Cut off the hard streaks from the cooked cabbage to wrap the cabbage rolls well and beautifully.

5. Turn on the oven, and preheat to 180°C.

6. Form the cabbage rolls, put the filling in the cabbage leaf, and roll it up so that the filling does not fall out, be sure to wrap the edges.

7. Put the cabbage rolls in a baking dish.

8. Dressing: in a deep bowl, mix the tomato paste and sugar, add water, mix, and pour over the cabbage rolls.

9. Cover the dish with foil and put in the oven for 1-1.5 hours at 180 C. At the end, remove the foil to brown the cabbage rolls on top and cook for another 20 minutes.
