Making sweets healthy – life hack from a nutritionist

If a person knows that he or she should give up sweets but cannot do so, he or she will have to resort to certain tricks.

Nutritionist Olha Naboka told OBOZREVATEL about this in an exclusive commentary.

"I would recommend everyone to reduce the consumption of sweets, as excess sugar contributes to a decrease in immunity. Excess sugar disrupts the intestinal microflora, and the intestines are the place where interferon is produced.

As for those who cannot give up eating sweets, you can resort to a very simple life hack. You just need to remove sugar from your diet, while keeping the sweetness. Sweet and sugar are not the same thing. Sweetness can be left, for example, in the form of dried fruits. Honey and sugar substitutes, such as Stevia, are allowed.

Dried fruit candies

We take any dried fruit with a glycemic index of up to 50. I recommend dried apricots, prunes, and figs.

Wash, dry, chop. Add any nuts, except peanuts. Add any seeds. You can add honey. Then add oatmeal.

Mix everything, let this mass stand for 2-3 hours in the refrigerator, and then form portioned candies.

You can roll the finished balls in sesame seeds or coconut. You can also simply roll this mass into a roll, and wrap it in cling film or foil (like a sweet sausage).

Store it in the refrigerator.

You can also add cinnamon, which also gives a feeling of pleasure because it irritates the same receptors on the tongue as sugar. That's why cinnamon also stimulates the production of serotonin, the so-called "happy hormone". In addition, you can add vanilla, and the effect will be about the same.

In fact, the life hack is very simple: instead of the usual sweets and cakes, we use dried fruits, honey, and oatmeal. As a result, we eat sweets, but we don't get harmful sugar. We don't remove sweets from the diet – we just make them healthy."
