Kidney stones: the doctor told what to remove from the diet
Not all diseases manifest themselves immediately, and sometimes a person may not even realize that he or she has problems with a particular organ.
This is how urolithiasis manifests itself, which is completely asymptomatic at the beginning of the disease. This was stated by nutritionist Olha Naboka in an exclusive commentary to OBOZREVATEL.
The kidneys are the filter of our body, and like any other filter, they need quality care and cleaning.
How to understand that something is wrong with your kidneys
According to the nutritionist, you can suspect the presence of kidney stones by hidden symptoms, such as high blood pressure, blood in the urine, cloudy urine, frequent painful urination, fever up to 40 degrees with sharp pain in the lower back and kidneys, and swelling.
Kidney stones can occur due to several factors:
- heredity;
- chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and genitourinary system;
- injuries and diseases of bone tissue;
- excess salt and spicy food in the diet;
- glandular dysfunction.
In case of diagnosed kidney stones, a properly formulated diet can not only eliminate the symptoms of the disease, slow down the process of forming new stones but also speed up the treatment process.
According to the nutritionist, doctors distinguish several types of stones that can form in the kidneys, the most common are phosphate, oxalate, and urate.
Everything is purely individual, and after the examination, the doctor selects an individual range of permitted foods for each patient separately.
Given the fact that various types of stones can form in the kidneys, the diet should be adjusted only after a series of tests and a thorough examination. However, there are general points that are characteristic of certain types of urolithiasis.
URATE STONES
If urate stones are diagnosed, it is necessary to reduce the formation of uric acid in the body. To do this, first of all, it is necessary to exclude from the body foods containing purines, which provoke the formation of this acid.
In case of urate stones, it is necessary to exclude any canned food, spicy meat soups, any meat broths, spices, pickles and smoked meats, jelly, sorrel, beans, soybeans, celery, spinach, asparagus, Brussels sprouts.
The diet must include cream, sour cream, cottage cheese, yogurt, fresh cucumbers, white cabbage, cauliflower, pumpkin, and carrots. You can also eat buttery pastries, olive oil, cereals, berries, fruits, and fresh herbs. You should also drink at least 3 liters of clean water a day, which will help reduce the concentration of uric acid.
The drinking regimen should be correct: drink water frequently, in small portions. In no case should you drink more than 300 ml of liquid at a time.
Menu
An exemplary menu may look like this:
breakfast - tea and a slice of unleavened bread,
lunch - fresh cabbage salad,
lunch - stewed vegetables with boiled pasta,
snack - fruit or berries in season, no more than 150 grams,
Dinner is oatmeal.
OXALATE STONES
When oxalate stones are diagnosed, a diet aimed at reducing oxalic acid in the body is required. To do this, you need to exclude from the diet: fatty meat, liver, kidneys, tongue and any other offal, meat broths, fish broths, jelly, mushrooms, smoked meats, and canned foods. You should also exclude hot peppers, red and Brussels sprouts, parsley, rhubarb, sorrel, celery, beets, green beans, fried potatoes, and lentils from your diet. In addition, the diet should not contain coffee, tea, kvass, tomato juice, and cocoa.
The diet should include boiled lean meat, boiled fish, white cabbage, boiled potatoes, turnips, watermelon, melon, dogwood, quince, black and white bread, vegetable soups, cereals, fruit, and berry juices.
Menu:
breakfast: cottage cheese (no more than 100-150 g), 200 ml. jelly,
lunch - one banana,
lunch - lean soup, boiled or steamed vegetables,
snack - compote and a slice of yeast bread,
dinner - a salad of seasonal vegetables.
PHOSPHATE STONES
With this type of stones in the diet, you need to reduce the amount of foods with alkaline properties. Vegetables, fruits, and berries should be excluded from the diet. Egg yolk, milk, and any dairy products except sour cream are also prohibited. Milk-based baked goods, canned food, pickles and smoked meats, horseradish, mustard, pepper, alcohol, coffee, tea, and fatty broths should be excluded.
The diet should include meat, lard, and fish. Caviar, vegetable fats, and butter are allowed. Sweets and honey are also allowed. It is advisable to drink rosehip infusion, tea, and bread kvass.
Menu:
breakfast - tea and caviar sandwich,
lunch - sugar-free marmalade,
